Gorgeously sweet and juicy watermelons remind me of our family holidays we had in Turkey over the years. They are such a welcome treat on a hot day! And with hardly any calories it makes for the perfect healthy non dairy, vegan, gluten free and sweetener free treat.
If you’ve missed my post about using a watermelon to create a fruit bowl centerpiece, you can check it out here. It’s the perfect dessert showstopper for your next summer party.
So, once I made the watermelon balls for the fruit bowl above, I was left with the remaining watermelon “bits” that I had to cut out to create the fruit bowl. And it turned out they were just perfect for making this lovely refreshing watermelon sorbet treat.
Because I didn’t use all of the very red juicy core of the watermelon, the sorbet colour was not as red as it could have been. After all, I used the majority of the watermelon for the fruit salad. If you’re making this sorbet as a treat or a dessert for guests, I would recommend using the red fleshy part of a nice red, juicy, sweet watermelon to get the best of the taste (and colour!).
With only 2 ingredients making this watermelon sorbet is so easy! You need a bit of patience to freeze the watermelon before you can start but once that’s done, it literally takes minutes with a Vitamix (my favourite – it’s so versatile!) or a high speed blender. Here’s how to do it:
What you need for watermelon sorbet
- 750 gr of watermelon
- 3 tablespoons of lime juice
- pinch of salt (optional, only if you like it!)
How to make the watermelon sorbet
- Place the cubed watermelon on a parchment lined baking sheet or plastic cutting board and freeze for at least 5 hours. I just left mine overnight.
- Place lime juice, frozen watermelon and sea salt (if using) in a Vitamix or high powered blender or food processor. Blend until the watermelon is broken down into shaved ice type consistency.
- You’re all ready to tuck in!
Now, how simple was that?

What I love is that you can enjoy a great healthy treat without any of the additives and “numbers” of the shop bought varieties. And they just taste so much better!
